Where to Begin
Whether you are still in a committed relationship or not, you are in this together. Your first step is to confirm the pregnancy. Even if she’s taken a home pregnancy test, there’s more to learn.
Come to Wabash LIFE Center for discreet, no-cost pregnancy testing. If the test is positive, we’ll provide a limited obstetrical ultrasound at no cost.
You’ll want her to have an ultrasound to verify if the pregnancy is developing or if she has miscarried (it is still possible to get a positive pregnancy test result days or weeks after a miscarriage).
Once the pregnancy is confirmed, it’s time to review your options.
You Have a Role to Play
The two of you need to operate as a team. When one team member doesn’t play their position, the other players can’t count on them. You need to “man-up” and take responsibility.
Here are some suggestions for things to do:
- Come with her to L.I.F.E. Center to verify her pregnancy.
- Listen to her. She’s frightened too, and needs to know you’re there for her.
- Share your thoughts. Your support means everything.
- Get the facts about all of your options.
- Talk together about the future.
Here are some suggestions for things you shouldn’t do:
- Do not pressure her to make one decision over another.
- Don’t ghost her. Disappearing at a time like this only shows immaturity.
- Don’t say, “Do whatever you want to do.” You have a voice about what happens to your child.
- Stand up for what you want, but do so out of care and concern.
Choose Your Future Together
An unexpected pregnancy impacts your future. No matter your choice moving forward, your life is forever changed. You and your partner need to agree on your next steps.
We encourage you to get the facts. Then, sit down with one of our caring advocates and discuss your situation.
Choosing how to handle an unexpected pregnancy is one of the most important decisions you two will make, but you don’t have to do it alone.
We’re here for you. Schedule a no-cost appointment or stop by.
